The view may have been marred by driving rain and fog, but nothing could put a damper on Jeff Hall’s excitement as his boyfriend Graham Munday proposed to him atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The two British citizens, who travelled to Sydney for Mardi Gras, had been talking about marriage for a while, though it still came as a total surprise to Hall.

“Graham must have organised it well in advance. He had to get special permission to take the ring up,” Hall said.

“We’d taken the mandatory breathalyser and we were getting suited up when someone called Graham away. He told me it was because there was something wrong with his breathalyser, but it was really so he could go get the ring.

“It wasn’t till we were at the very top that I realised something was going on. I was just so shocked and surprised.

“It was about as scenic a setting as you could want, except for the wind and rain, but as far as proposals go it really was amazing, right up there, if not better than the usual proposal spots like the Eiffel Tower.”
