Kate’s bedroom eyes back on the charts
Kate Ceberano may have toured the world and sung to audiences bigger than the annual Mardi Gras party, but no matter how far or wide this diva roams she still believes her gay fans are among her biggest and proudest supporters.
And it’s not just because of her voluptuous breasts and her stance on female empowerment, but a combination of those things plus an amazing voice and the ability to turn any song into her own.
Her new album So Much Beauty is expected to be another winner to add to Ceberano’s list of successes, but one she admits will sit slightly differently from the others.
So Much Beauty was the tag that seemed most appropriate, she told SSO.
It symbolises all of the important things in my life. All my life is put into the music I make.
The entire project was conceived and completed in an organic, collaborative way with my management, family and wonderful musician friends in a simple environment, aided by the great input of another friend and great musician, James Black.
The album features a string of covers, from KT Tunstall’s Suddenly I See, to Never Say Never with her It Takes Two partner and AFL star Russell Robertson.
Ceberano said there was an obvious musical trend towards covers at the moment, explaining why she chose to tread the same path.
We always go in and out of these fashion periods of music. I like to bob along to the tide of music, Ceberano said.
You don’t garner a lot of respect from your peers if you just do covers. My career is known for my solo work and my singles have all been original work -“ you make your song your own and bring something new.
On Wednesday 7 May and Thursday 8 May, Ceberano will be joining forces with Todd McKenney, Anthony Callea and Trisha Crowe in a show titled Songs From The Movies at the Sydney Opera House.
The singers will perform songs from a string of movie hits, including Singin’ In The Rain and Strictly Ballroom.
All of us are just thrilled to be singing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. You will know the songs and we are doing solos and some tracks together, she said.
I know Anthony and I will be singing a song from Moulin Rouge together. We will be out-diva-ing each other.
Tickets for the Opera House show can be bought on 9250 7777 or sydneyoperahouse.com. For more details, check out www.kateceberano.com. So Much Beauty is out now.
