KIRBY SPEAKS

High Court judge Justice Michael Kirby attended the Mature Aged Gays meeting on Saturday night. More than 260 people attended, including Kirby’s long-time partner Johan van Vloten. Representatives came from the Long Yang Club, Silk Road, SWOP, ACON, Gay Waves, Aboriginal and Torres Straight Island Group, Country Network, Helix, Gay Sydney Nudists, MCC, PFLAG, the AIDS Trust, Ankali, the Gay and Lesbian Counselling Group, GAMMA, AFAO, New Mardi Gras, PLWHA and other community organisations. Kirby spoke for 45 minutes on equality, the history of sexual discrimination and the evolution of sexual liberation in different countries. Kirby’s address was met with a 10-minute ovation from MAG’s biggest crowd ever. MAG founder Steve Ostrow said the organisation was proud to present the event to the entire gay and lesbian community.
