Lobby calls for volunteers

Lobby calls for volunteers

If you’ve always harboured a secret desire to be a cheerleader, now’s your chance to get your pom-poms shaking.

The Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby needs volunteers for its Bring It On-inspired parade float, as well as other events during the busy Mardi Gras season.

For Fair Day on Sunday 17 February, the Lobby needs 40 volunteers across four two-and-a-half-hour shifts between 10am and 6.30pm. Help is needed with the Sea of Hearts event, staffing the Lobby stall and collecting donations at Victoria Park.

More volunteers are wanted to march in the Lobby’s 5808 Mardi Gras Parade float, which will highlight the 58 laws that discriminate against same-sex couples and their children.

While the float is cheerleader-themed, the Lobby welcomes volunteers of all coordination levels. You may have to give up some extra time for rehearsal and preparation and there will be a small fee to cover the cost of your costume.

Another 40 keen volunteers are needed to work in the cloakroom and help with guest relations at Harbour Party in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sunday 24 February. Twenty people are also needed in the cloakroom at Toybox at Luna Park on Sunday 2 March.

Volunteers at these events will receive a free ticket to the Party, but you have to work for it -“ first preference will be given to volunteers who also help out at either Fair Day or the Parade.

To volunteer for any of the events, email [email protected] with contact details (name, phone, email), which event/s you would like to volunteer for, and shift availability.
