Marriage ban heads to Senate
Plans to ban gay and lesbians from marrying and adopting overseas children will be debated by the senate, after they were passed in the lower house today.
The plans were presented by the federal government and partially opposed by the ALP.
AAP reported there was fierce debate over whether gay couples should adopt children from overseas. The ALP opposed the adoption law amendment but supported changing the Marriage Act, to affirm marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
ALP Minister Carmen Lawrence said the legislation was developed in spite and malice.
