Mars, the planet of war, willpower and action, is currently in Cancer, the qualities of which are to do with home, past and security.
Mars goes retrograde every two years and two months and it went into retrograde on 16 November. This will last until 31 January 2008. A retrograde is a time to reassess what has happened since the last retrograde.
Politically we can see the effects of the Mars retrograde with the result of our last election, the dissatisfaction since the previous election and the electing of a new leader.
On a global scale a Mars retrograde is a time of controlled action. With Cancer being a careful sign and Mars being an action planet we could see bottled-up emotions turning outwards and developing into frustration.
It could also create a passive aggressiveness if this energy is not channelled correctly.
The Mars retrograde changes star signs from Cancer to Gemini on 1 January 2008 so we would start to see a more verbalised expression of this energy. The times are a-changing.
There is some hard work ahead on the home front. Arguing won’t solve anything and there may be delays in progress. Leading up to this, there were clear indications of what was to come. Just do your best to sort things out, one way or the other.
Emotional confusion can lead to miscommunication. This is a good time to tackle and master any irrational thought patterns, keeping your aggression in check. If there’s something you need to talk about, take a few days to think it over.
Your determination to improve your position re cash and self-esteem is important and should be handled with care. Try not to over-sell yourself. Should circumstances be delayed, take it in your stride and be calm.
Mars reversing in your sign can play two ways: you may find the energy will assist in maintaining momentum, or you will throw a tantrum at every point. Decide which is going to benefit you and at what point.
Mars in your subconscious zone is helping you to tackle your fears and reach a new level of spirituality. Lean on those who can assist you with the parts you aren’t used to dealing with. These are your fears, so you own them … therefore can control them.
It’s about groups, friends and what Mars is showing you regarding your interactions. If you’ve been quite assertive, this is the period to ease off a little and also a time when new acquaintances will form. New people come into our lives to help us grow and develop.
The focus is on career. When Mars went forward it was full steam ahead and frustration took over. Let the current retrograde help you ease off. Balance out what is worth the frustration and fight for something you believe in, not something you don’t.
If you have been pursuing higher education and working on expanding your character, take what you have so far and sit with it. You will get your chance to continue once Mars moves forward, but take this time as a blessing to really grasp what you’ve learned so far.
Certain desires will fade and others will increase. Mars isn’t a picky planet, so it’s up to you to focus your will and drive in the most beneficial way. Your libido is up one minute and down the next. Your finances are fruitful and then sparse. You’ll get it soon enough.
Is it time for a reconciliation of old romances, or is it time to achieve closure? Mars does represent drive, passion and determination, but don’t let it lead you astray. Truly decide once and for all what is going to be best for you. One mantra that can help: “If you do it, don’t regret it. If you’ll regret it, don’t do it.”
Motivation may run low and keeping an eye on your health is important during this phase. Given you may have low energy levels, this is a great time to learn how to ask others for help. Learning to accept help can be difficult but, if your health is in question, this should come first.
The next couple of months could see your romance and creativity on hold. This isn’t so bad as you are being presented with an opportunity to gather yourself and have breathing space. You’ll have opportunities in the future so, for now, enjoy the process.
