McNally in India

The Gay Games festival is over but there are plenty of new theatre and cultural events with a queer bent on offer across Sydney. A three-week season of the seldom performed A Perfect Ganesh by Terrence McNally (Love! Valor! Compassion!) opens tonight. A Perfect Ganesh concerns the spiritual (and geographical) journey of two American women on a trip to India, whose ghosts include a lost gay son. With Indian dance, puppetry, the elephant-headed Hindu god Ganesh and his Rat minion, this promises to be a seriously offbeat evening at the theatre. A Perfect Ganesh opens at the TAP Gallery, 278 Palmer Street, Darlinghurst tonight and runs for three weeks. Performances are held Thursday to Saturday at 8pm and Sundays at 5pm. Tickets are $20 and $15 and may be booked on 9439 1906.
