New club on the block
The newly renovated Oxford Hotel is aiming to be Sydney’s newest A-list spot with the launch of its Will and Tobys Taylor Square supper club this week.
The premises are being fitted out at a rumoured cost of $7 million, thanks to the oak parquetry, a floating jade ceiling, a custom-made art deco stairwell with lit stair treads and a four-storey backdrop depicting a Gothic fairytale.
The supper club promises to showcase the very best in local and international talent including Paul Misbrener, David Campbell and Deni Hines. Deni Hines will be performing at the launch tonight (Thursday 3 May).
Former Bardot member Belinda Chapple and her new girl group The Silver Spoons will have a regular spot on Friday nights with their Pussycat Doll-style performances.
Just back from rural Australia, Courtney Act will be performing every Sunday with King Casual, supported by a four-piece band.
Harking back to her Australian Idol days, Act says there is nothing better than watching live music. During her six-week season, she aims to give the club a cocktail lounge atmosphere doing songs ranging from Queen to Madonna with a jazz flavour.
We are planning a musical journey. The beat will be constant from modern to classic songs, Act told Sydney Star Observer.
It will have an excellent vibe and will offer something different on a Sunday night. The venue itself is spectacular, with a 1960s New York style.
It’s also likely the club will host VIP movie premieres and private celebrity parties.
