HISTORY BOYS
The Sydney Theatre Company is hosting a screening of one of the year’s gayest films, The History Boys, at the Chauvel Cinema Paddington on Monday 2 April. Admission price of $20 includes a glass of wine and all proceeds go towards STC projects. The evening starts at 6pm and the screening kicks off at 7pm. Bookings: 9250 1777. The film opens nationally on Thursday 3 May.
NEWTOWN GETS NEW QUEER SPACE
An inner-west queer collective is organising a new space for community members to meet and work on projects. NewQ will be a place for people to get together for workshops, film nights, discussion circles and dinners, without any commercial interests. Organisers hope to make the Enmore Road venue a self-sustainable community centre in the coming months. The three-room space at 22 Enmore Road will be shared with the Black Rose Bookshop and an art gallery. A grand opening is planned for Friday 30 March from 6:30pm, with performances, food, drinks, music and a raffle. Email [email protected] or visit on opening night to get involved.
MELBOURNE OUTGAMES ON TARGET
It is only a month since Melbourne announced it would host the Asia Pacific Outgames during next year’s Midsumma Festival, and organisers are already reporting the fundraising for the major sporting event is on track. A sum of $10,000 was needed to be raised in March in the first round of fundraising to pay deposits for booking various sporting venues, and organisers claim they are on budget. The next round of fundraising will commence at the end of April. Melbourne 2008 Asia Pacific Outgames will be held 30 January to 3 February.
