Outgames speakers announced

The first keynote speakers for the Asia Pacific Outgames Conference have been announced featuring participants from New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, India, and Nepal.

Among the line-up is Thai professor of law at Chulalongkom University, Vitit Muntarbhorn; co-founder and executive director of international feminist human rights organisation CREA, Geetanjali Misra; and openly gay Nepali MP, Sunil Babu Pant.

Annette Xiberras, an elder of the Wurundjeri people, has been announced as Australia’s first selected speaker.

There was a big response to requests for presenters and panel members. More than 100 people from 13 countries indicated they would like to give a presentation at the conference by the time the call for expressions of interest closed on September 30.

“We are totally delighted with the calibre of the people who have accepted our invitations,” Outgames Conference convenor Barry Taylor said.

Further speakers will be announced later in October. The conference will be held March 16-18 2011.
The 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames is eight days of sports competition, a human rights conference, arts and cultural events from March 12–19, 2011.
