Political trio to address gay and lesbian dinner forum

Three key politicians seeking re-election at the up-coming Federal election will put their cases to a dinner organised by the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Business Association (SGLBA).
Wentworth MP Malcolm Turnbull, Sydney MP Tanya Plibersek and Greens Senator Kerry Nettle have agreed to speak at the Stamford Plaza dinner on November 7.
SGLBA president Scott Quine said the three politicians would share their policies and position on issues affecting the gay and lesbian and wider business community at the dinner.
“The SGLBA has over the years taken it upon itself to be one of the community leaders when it comes to organising forums where gay and lesbian businesses and business people can directly engage the political figures of the day,” he said.
“We believe this is a positive role for us to play.  The forum is therefore both educational and informative for our members as well as entertaining and social.”
However the SGLBA will not come out in support of any particular party or policy following the dinner, preferring to let people make up their own minds.
“The SGLBA is an impartial, non-politically affiliated organisation.  We have over 350 active members whose political views and allegiances are as diverse as the rest of the community,” Quine said.
“The SGLBA decided to invite just the two major parties and the major third party force at this current time – combined they will likely cover well over 95% of all voters.”
The SGLBA has a long history of activism in the gay and lesbian community. Founded in 1981 as the Gay Business Association, it changed its name to the current moniker in 1994 to reflect its broadening membership base.
It was formed to provide opportunities for gay men and lesbians to develop their business interests and networks within corporate environments and as individual business persons.
It hosts two regular functions every month – Fruits in Suits and Lemons With A Twist – as well as other events throughout the year.
The Federal Election Dinner 07 is at the Stamford Plaza Hotel, Double Bay from 7pm on Wednesday 7 November. Prices are $99 for SGLBA members and $109 for non-members. Cost includes two courses and wine. Bookings close 1 November and there is no table or seat allocation. Bookings: 8354 1556 (BH) or email [email protected] with your credit card details.
