The news editor of SSO‘s sister publication bnews, Doug Pollard, has received a Media Award for his commitment to reporting issues of HIV/AIDS.

The award was presented to him at the recent Victorian AIDS Council (VAC) annual general meeting.

Pollard was noted for his coverage of issues through his current role at bnews, his former position as editor of Melbourne Star and his on-air presenter position with the Rainbow Report on JOY 94.9.

In particular, Pollard was praised for his handling of the Michael Neal story, which he brought to the public’s attention.

VAC representative Sonny Williams read a citation at the meeting: In the blanket media coverage, much of which was inaccurate and sensationalist with strong overtones of moral panic, Doug’s reports presented a sensible and balanced mix of news and analysis.
