RUGGER BUGGERS

Australia’s first gay/gay-friendly rugby union club the Sydney Convicts are in the middle of hardcore fundraising for their upcoming trip to the Bingham Cup.

Following their successful Rugger Bugger night at the Midnight Shift, a couple of months of rugby-boy events kick off on Friday 30 April, with a trivia madness night at the Paddington RSL. Bruno Bouchet and Paul Long will host the trivia night, starting at 7:30pm. It will be a fierce battle of total trivia madness between 30 cut-throat teams, Convicts event coordinator David Whittaker says. The night’s prizes will include Sydney Festival tickets, sports gear, food, wine and a date with a Sydney Convict. Tickets are available for individuals or tables of 10 by calling Ian Spilsted on 9283 6882. On Sunday 1 May the Convicts take on the brand new Brisbane Hustlers in a preparation match for the Bingham Cup. The Convicts will be wanting to add another win to their three out of four games record. The match will be hosted by Colleagues Rugby Club at Woollahra. Rugger Bugger II is coming up on Saturday 15 May at the Shift and it will be Sydney’s last chance to see the Convicts before they head to the Bingham Cup.

The feedback we got from the community was fantastic for the first event, so we’re planning to give something back with a really great farewell party, Convicts PR and media manager Sam Minter says. Visit the Convicts website at sydneyconvicts.org for more information.
