SECOND ANTI-MARRIAGE BILL FAILS IN SENATE

The government’s second attempt to rush anti-gay marriage legislation through failed last week.

Two independent senators joined with the ALP, Greens and Democrats and refused to consider the government’s second Marriage Act amendment bill on Friday.

On Thursday last week, the government rushed a second piece of legislation through the lower house, despite the senate voting to send similar legislation to a committee for consideration the previous day.

The bill will now be considered by a Senate Committee.
