Shop yourself stupid again
Reviving the spirit of the annual Shop Yourself Stupid charity event, the drag queens will be back on Oxford St for The Main Drag on February 25. The event is an initiative of the City of Sydney, the 2010 Darlinghurst & Surry Hills Business Partnership and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
For years, Shop Yourself Stupid was a major part of the Mardi Gras calendar and once again drag queens will stroll up and down the Golden Mile, stopping traffic, attracting customers and promoting Oxford St as the premier shopping destination for international, interstate and local visitors alike.
Drag performances will be staged outside gay venues, there will be a ‘Dorothy’ look-alike competition, and a wheel of fortune on the street will allow shoppers to compete for prizes.
Free massages will be offered at Taylor Square, while buskers and zumba classes will abound and hot muscle boys will whisk consumers into shops.
Participating businesses will receive free rainbow decorations and the event will be extensively promoted in the media, through social media and through in-store posters and flyers. There will also be a competition for best window display.
