George Bush’s war on terror battle cry, You are either with us or against us, was disturbing enough at the time in its absolute tone, but it takes on an even more chilling resonance with the Arthur Miller play The Crucible, written 54 years ago in response to the communism witch hunts. The play features the line, A person is either with this court or he must be counted against it, there is no road between. ADAM SAYS IT LOUD
Gay cowboy Adam Sutton will appear In Conversation with Say It Out Loud author and Sydney Morning Herald journalist Neil McMahon at a special event at Gleebooks on Thursday 12 April. The pair are friends who met at Arq before Sutton shot to fame as the subject of a front-page article written by McMahon, outlining his friendship with Heath Ledger and revealing him as the inspiration behind Ledger’s performance in Brokeback Mountain. BEVERLY’S BIRTHDAY BASH
Drag diva Beverly Buttercup is turning 40, and everyone is invited to the celebration, which is being held as a fundraiser for HIV/AIDS charities. La Buttercup will perform in the drag spectacular, which be hosted by Tora Hymen and feature a stellar cast including Brandi Alexander, Crystal Clear, Ida Slapda, Sue Pernatural and Rusty Boxxx. Not only does the event mark Buttercup’s 40th year, but it also marks her 15th year of entertaining the western suburbs in drag.
