New look for Xchange

Commercial Rd mainstay the Xchange Hotel has been undergoing a few changes of late, but the venue’s facelift is set to be unveiled with a grand re-opening on Thursday, October 29.

As the weather warms for summer and punters start heading out again, Xchange is meeting demand with a new public bar, ground-floor smoking area, games room and ‘ladies’ lounge, plus a few special surprises.

“There’s going to be a bit of a surprise in the public bar, which I’m not going to give away, but it’s inspired by something I saw when I visited a great gay bar in Paris,” venue manager Mark Chilton told Southern Star.

Chilton did give one hint about what could be on offer at the public bar, saying that those who like their men naked and wet (and let’s face it, that’s most of us) will enjoy what he’s got in store.

As well as the major revamps to the lounge and public bars, patrons will notice a few technological upgrades.

“There are going to be some hi-tech new things, because Kevin [Attwood, Xchange owner] is very technical. There are new visuals for stage shows and other hi-tech things around the venue that people should look out for.”

Those visiting Xchange over the next week or so will also find the bar’s usual array of drag talent on offer.

“On Thursday night (October 29) at the unveiling we’ll have Paris and Pussy doing their show P Soup, as well as some other special stuff happening throughout the night.

“After that, we’ve got the Spiced Girls coming back on Saturday nights with their Wicked show – and on Saturday October 31 it’ll be a Halloween special. Savage are coming back on Friday November 6 – that’s four hot dancing boys with two drag queens in a big spectacular show.”
