Rovers too strong

Rovers too strong

The Melbourne Rovers won the Justin Fashanu Cup in Sydney at the weekend, defeating the Sydney Rangers 2-1 at St George Soccer Stadium.

The cup, now in its second year, is an annual match between the only gay male soccer teams in Australia.

It was a fantastic day and a great chance to honour Justin Fashanu, the only professional soccer player in the world to come out as a  gay man, before tragically taking his own life 18 months later.

Sydney won last year’s competition 4-2.

Support the Star Observer… while you still can

LGBTQIA+ media is under threat. Queer content is censored by tech conglomerates who amplify bigotry and push out AI slop — so we receive less financial support than ever.

When our community is muzzled and intolerance intensifies, we need queer media more than ever. Your donation means we can continue paying queer journalists to write queer news.

Don’t rely on the straight lies of big tech – support Star Observer instead and donate now.
