VAC robbed

The Victorian AIDS Council/Gay Men’s Health Centre in Claremont St, South Yarra was broken into over the weekend, causing minor damage.

Thieves smashed a window around 3am on Sunday, August 29. Doors were damaged, glass broken on the floor and a safe stolen.

VAC executive director Mike Kennedy told Southern Star Observer the damage was “relatively minor” and would be covered by insurance.

“It’s more an inconvenience than anything else,” he said on Sunday. “It’s just not a nice feeling knowing people have been in the building.”

Computers and electrical goods were not taken.

Kennedy said no medical records were held in the areas thieves broke into, however, the organisation wouldn’t be able to do a thorough check of missing items until staff returned to work on Monday.

It’s understood the stolen safe did not contain any money.

Police are investigating, and it’s understood more than one person was involved in the incident.

Victoria Police urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au
