Nominate for human rights
There’s not much time left before nominations close for the Australian Human Rights Commission Awards.
Australian Human Rights Commission president Cathy Branson QC said the awards have recognised the efforts of individuals and organisations since 1987.
“There are Australians in cities, rural areas and in remote communities who each and every day are doing something to improve the human rights of others and to promote a fairer place for all of us,” she said.
PFLAG Brisbane convenor Shelley Argent received a Highly Commended certificate in the Community Award category last year, while out lesbian and Greens candidate for the Victorian seat of Richmond, Kathleen Maltzahn was nominated for her book about human trafficking in Australia.
Seven categories will recognise the achievements of human rights advocates this year in Law, Community (Organisation), Community (Individual), Literature (non-fiction), Print Media, Television, and Radio.
Nominations close Friday, October 2 and winners will be announced at a gala luncheon on Human Rights Day, December 10, in Sydney.
Over 200 nominations were received last year.

Support the Star Observer… while you still can
LGBTQIA+ media is under threat. Queer content is censored by tech conglomerates who amplify bigotry and push out AI slop — so we receive less financial support than ever.
When our community is muzzled and intolerance intensifies, we need queer media more than ever. Your donation means we can continue paying queer journalists to write queer news.
Don’t rely on the straight lies of big tech – support Star Observer instead and donate now.
