Pucker up for new drag night

A new LGBTI night is coming to the Gold Coast in hopes of finding the drag stars of tomorrow.

Held in the heart of Southport, Rainbow Lips will provide a safe and fun venue for newcomers in drag to start out, share experiences, tips and support each other.

“Our role is to provide a steppingstone for baby drag queens, kings and performers to show their talent, and to also learn and grow to eventually get regular gigs at bigger venues,” organiser Shannon Doherty told the Star Observer.

Doherty said it’s important to provide a welcoming venue for people who are just starting out on the scene, but also for patrons as well.

“It also takes a lot of pride to perform drag and the last thing the performers need is a let down,” Doherty said.

Rainbow Lips will be held at the Southport Bowls Club on September 15 from 7pm and hosted by Tara Raboomdea.
