Benstix win semi-final

The Bentstix Grade 4 Division 2 team defeated Glebe 6-1 in an exciting second semi-final on Sunday morning at Sutherland.

Bentstix opened strongly, with four goals in the first half to Glebe’s one. Goal-scoring was shared between Peter Hill (2), David Kyles (2), Ryan Holmes (1) and Phil Hardy (1).

Bentstix started the year on a high, winning both the men’s and women’s gold medals at the Asia-Pacific Outgames in Wellington, but had a difficult winter season with injuries, players moving overseas and interstate, and other players being unable to play due to work commitments. The club struggled to field its usual two full teams, with many players regularly playing two games in a row, and also forfeiting games.

Despite this, one of the teams finished in third place on the ladder and qualified for the finals. This is the third consecutive year that Bentstix have had a team in the Sydney Hockey Association finals.

This weekend, Bentstix will play Sydney University in the preliminary final. The winner will play Ryde Hunters Hill in the Grand Final. Supporters are welcome. The game is at 1pm, Saturday, September 3 at Bankstown Hockey Club.
