Freezone hits high

Freezone Volleyball hosted its annual Spring Tournament in Sydney last Saturday, with players competing from all over Australia in a friendly but fiercely fought competition.

There were 29 teams from Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne competing across five divisions at Olympic Park’s Indoor Sports Centre in Homebush, in what was Freezone’s largest Spring Tournament to date.

Tournament director Michael Pitt heralded the tournament as being a “fun and friendly competition where supportive spirit was the ideal goal”.

Female attendance at the tournament reached a high with 12 complete teams in two ‘mixed divisions’ and females playing in the men’s division itself.

The club awarded six cash prizes to teams with female players, a highlight of the tournament.

“The day was a huge success not just for volleyball but for the inclusion of all participants gay, straight, male, female and all in between,” former Freezone president Wally Salinger said.
