Rangers kick off summer season

The Sydney Rangers began their summer season in the Balmain six-a-side league against the Balmain Wanderers in late October.

The Rangers were looking forward to facing a tougher opposition than last summer, but even so, the opening match was a baptism of fire as they found themselves under heavy pressure early on. Hard defensive work and saves from the Rangers keeper kept the score to 0-2 at half-time.

In the second half, the Wanderers pulled away from a tired Rangers team, knocking in six unanswered goals to finish 0-8 winners.

The Rangers regrouped during the week and approached the second fixture against the Soccerwhos with fresh optimism and a more aggressive approach. The opposition was again of a high quality, putting early pressure on the Rangers goal.

Sturdy defence and four or five saves from the Rangers keeper kept the score to 0-0 at half-time.

The Rangers asserted themselves in the second half, applying more and more pressure on the Soccerwhos goal. Chances came and went until striker Danny latched on to a long ball before volleying past the Soccerwhos keeper 1-0. The

Rangers defended brilliantly to hold out for a fantastic opening victory of the season.
