Sydney’s gay and lesbian cycling club, the Sydney Spokes, has launched its summer ride calendar in addition to a new-look logo and website.

This season’s planned rides include locations such as Quarantine Station, Olympic Park, Cronulla and the Lower North Shore.

The Spokes offer rides suitable for all levels of cyclist and will conclude their summer calendar with Find Love on Two Wheels, three rides that feature in the 2012 Mardi Gras Sports Festival program.

The Spokes started in 1986 with just four members, after a founding member placed an advertisement for cycling buddies. They were inspired by an article in The New York Native gay magazine about a community cycling group called Different Spokes.

The new logo incorporates elements of the bicycle wheel, the rainbow flag and the sails of the Sydney Opera House.
