Hosted by drag queen Portia Turbo at Paddington RSL last Friday night, the fourth annual ‘Are You Smarter Than a Stinger?’ trivia night saw over 300 people attend and contribute towards raising enough funds to fly a squad to Antwerp, which is hosting the Out Games in August.

Sydney Stingers Club President Russ Plummer said it was the biggest night the club has hosted.

“We had over 300 smarty pants attend – it was an amazing night and we raised over $12,000 which will be used to support the Club and assist with sending a team to the World Out Games in Antwerp in August. We’d like to thank all those who attended on the night and all our supporters for their contributions,” Plummer said.

Formed in 2001 to compete in the Gay Games, the Stingers have grown to field two teams in the Sydney metropolitan competition and regularly send squads overseas to represent Australia in international gay sporting tournaments like the Out Games.

The Stingers also called for people interested in getting involved to sign up to one of their water polo bootcamps or training courses in time for the summer water polo season beginning in October.
