The Press Council has ruled that a 2017 anti-trans column written by Miranda Devine is in breach of their standards.
“I can’t see how one would get through such a process and come out of it with a poster that is at all inclusive.”
“That’s not free speech, that’s not fair,” said Binary Australia’s director Kirralie Smith.
“It is time for the award for most outstanding show to be in our name to celebrate the city that inspired the growth of our festival and its outstanding artists.”
“Trans-exclusionary sentiments are a form of discrimination,” the openly gay MP said. “Individuals and groups with these discriminatory beliefs should not be able to participate in a Pride Parade.”
Binary Australia is the pet project of Marriage Alliance’s Kirralie Smith, who is now a Senate candidate for Cory Bernardi’s Australian Conservatives party in New South Wales.
The stickers, which are shaped like penises, bear the words “women don’t have penises”.
The definition the administration is seeking would state that gender is defined solely by one’s genitals at birth, and that any dispute over someone’s gender would require clarification through genetic testing.
