The exemption would protect views like those expressed by Israel Folau, whose four-year contract with Rugby Australia was terminated as a result of his recent anti-LGBTI social media posts.
The government indicated last year that it would order the review after Prime Minister Scott Morrison failed to meet his own deadline for removing the exemptions by the end of 2018.

The Greens have tabled an amendment to the legislation to ensure that LGBTI teachers and staff at religious schools are also protected from discrimination.
The draft bill makes provision for decisions made to protect “the religious susceptibilities of adherents of that religion or creed” and in instances where the school “had regard to the best interests of the student”.
