A bill to amend the laws to allow male same-sex couples and single men access to surrogacy is due to be put to a conscience vote in WA’s upper house.
The $1.4 million program will run gender diversity training, provide support for gender diverse students, and offer lessons in reducing homophobia and transphobia.
The expungement scheme will commence on October 1, with applications to be made through the WA Department of Justice website.
The reforms would allow male same-sex couples access to altruistic surrogacy, and allow trans people to change the gender marker on their birth certificates without forced divorce.
Opposition Leader Mike Nahan denied Safe Schools would be on the chopping block because of religious opposition within his party.
WA law still allows religious schools to discriminate against LGBTI people.
A loophole still allows private schools to sack LGBTI teachers, expel LGBTI students, and refuse enrolment to children in rainbow families.
“It’s an important step for WA and sends the message that we are a tolerant state that is welcoming and proud of everyone”
