Organisers are seeking community support for the proposed memorial in the Sydney park located near St Vincent’s Hospital, where more than half of Australian cases were treated during the AIDS crisis.
“The focus of many of these violent attacks was in, and around, Marks Park. This memorial will help acknowledge and heal the trauma these events have caused for the families of the victims as well as the LGBTI community”
The Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group, which was formed in early 1988, announced at the event that the organisation was changing its name to the more inclusive Equality Tasmania.
