The biennial SWASH survey found 31 per cent of women and non-binary people felt life was not worth living in the past 12 months, with 14 per cent of respondents reporting self-harm.

42 percent of non-binary young people had also attempted suicide, as well as 30 percent of young trans women, according to the US study.
The Australian Christian Lobby’s state branch decried the proposal, saying taxpayers should not fund surgeries that advocates say are “life-changing” and sometimes “life-saving”.
