Popular British soap opera EastEnders will introduce a new bisexual character in the coming weeks, according to a tweet from series story editor, Ben Wadey. …
“I really hope that there will be some trans young people out there who have felt isolated before and then see this character and feel that they are not alone.”
Special will be based on writer Ryan O’Connell’s experiences growing up, and coming out, as a gay man with cerebral palsy.
“Hopefully one of the side effects of the show is that there’s some basic representation that’s been missing out there, about a young non-Anglo teenager coming to terms with his sexuality.”
Poking fun at criticism of her acclaimed special ‘Nanette’ from largely men, Gadsby joked, “Hashtag-not-all-men… but a lot of ’em.”
Rose’s casting would make Batwoman the first gay lead character of a live-action superhero series.
“I’m learning more about myself – the fact that we helped a woman, the fact that we helped a trans person, it expands my perspective.”
Reports suggest that the show’s cast may have already been informed of the show’s axing, and that the series’ set is being dismantled.
