Greece: how can I resist you?

Greece: how can I resist you?

Mamma Mia is more than just a movie that was filmed with great music and stunning Greek locations. It is an extravaganza that even the Greeks loved seeing, and in its opening week it became the number one ranking movie at the Greek box office.
If the locals loved the scenery so much, you can just imagine how much more exciting it is for the rest of us.
Who can forget some of the stunning scenes of the incomparable Greek islands when Sophie and her friends are running near the beach with the sparkling blue waters of the Aegean Sea in the background?
Much of the outdoor filming of the movie Mamma Mia was done on the small island of Skopelos, with the main beach location being Kastani beach. The part of the film where two of the characters miss the last ferry to the island was filmed at the old port of Skiathos.
We can only guess why the movie producers chose these two specific islands, but what great choices they were.
Skiathos is a very green island covered by a thick pine forest and has long and golden sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters.
Skopelos is the greenest island in Greece with more than 50 percent of the island area covered by a forest of pine trees. It has 67kms of rugged coastline and is 17kms long and 8kms wide, so it is easy to get around.
It also has more than 300 churches and monasteries. One of these is the beautifully located Agios Ioannis Chapel where the wedding took place in the movie.
So … imagine yourself lazing on the beautiful islands of Skiathos and Skopelos while you hum the tune: ‘Mamma Mia, how can I resist you?’.
While the islands of Mamma Mia attract the musical-lovers, one can’t forget the attractions of Mykonos and Santorini.
Famed for its unbeatable views, sunsets and romanticism, Santorini is the place to be for those wanting a romantic escape.
With a unique combination of black sandy beaches, trendy boutiques, cafés and bars and the incredible sunsets over the Caldera, Santorini is one island no one wants to leave.
The cosmopolitan island of Mykonos has a combination of charm, character, parties and relaxation. Spend your days exploring the town or lying on the beach and the nights enjoying a fresh seafood meal before partying the night away.
Enjoy the Greek islands, where magic happens.
