Outgames registrations exceed expectation
The daily number of people registering for the 2011 Wellington AsiaPacific Outgames has more than quadrupled as the close of a discounted earlybird period for registration fees approaches.
2011 AsiaPacific Outgames registration convenor Peter Gordon said, for some sports, half the expected numbers of athletes had already registered with four and a half months left to go.
“Numbers are running ahead of our forecasts,” he said.
Sports like running and the triathlon have no upper limit on the number of athletes that can compete, but others have a maximum number that can be accepted so potential athletes are encouraged to sign up sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.
Swimming, ten-pin bowling and running have been the most popular sports so far, with dancesport and lawn bowls also popular. Of the team sports, volleyball and field hockey have had the largest number of registrations.
More than half the registrations for the games have come from outside New Zealand.
October 31 was the last day of the cheapest registration fee is available, but a less discounted earlybird fee will still be available until November 30 when the full conference programme is scheduled to be announced.
The 2011 Asia Pacific Outgames will run in Wellington, New Zealand, from 12-19 March in 2011.
