Ugandan lesbian faces deportation

British authorities are planning to deport a lesbian asylum seeker despite serious concerns for her safety in Uganda.

Brenda Namigadde fled the African nation eight years ago because of life-threatening persecution over her sexuality.

“If I am sent back I’ll be tortured, maybe killed,” she said in a statement to the press. “They’ve put people like me to death there.”

The murder of Ugandan GLBT rights activist David Kato in his home this week illustrates the danger Brenda faces if she is forced to return.

In a last-minute bid to save Brenda from a potentially life threatening situation, gay rights organisation All Out have started a petition to allow her to stay in Britain.
