Pet Shop Boys onto a winner?
With the London Olympics only a few weeks away, one has to wonder whether the Pet Shop Boys are seeking to grab a little Olympic glory of their own with the well-timed release of their new single, Winner.
“You’re a winner, I’m a winner, let’s en
joy it all while it lasts,” sings Neil Tennant on a song that seems destined to soundtrack a multitude of Olympic montages over the coming months.
The only problem? In our opinion, despite the uplifting lyrics, this somewhat plodding number isn’t a patch on much of the duo’s recent output (see their previous album, the stunning return-to-form Yes).
Let’s hope there’s better to be found on their upcoming album Elysium, to be released on September 17.
