WATCH: Michelle Obama talks marriage equality
US First Lady Michelle Obama has vocalised her own thoughts on same-sex marriage, just weeks after her husband, US President Barack Obama, came out in support of reform.
In a video released last week, the First Lady answers questions from her Twitter (@MichelleObama), and responds to one citizen’s request: “Please tell us about your family discussions about marriage equality and thank President Obama for his support.”
“It really comes down to the values of fairness and equality that we want to pass down to our girls,” she said.
“I mean, these are basic values that kids learn at a very young age and that we encourage them to apply in all areas of their lives.
“And in a country where we teach our children that everyone is equal under the law, discriminating against same-sex couples just isn’t right.”
