Marcelo Suntheim and Cesar Cigliutti were showered in confetti as they left the marriages registry office in Buenos Aires after becoming the first gay couple to take advantage of the city’s new law recognizing same sex civil unions. This was the first such ceremony in Latin America. Every gay, lesbian, transvestite and transsexual in Argentina has always fantasised about this moment, Suntheim told Reuters. Our society has really demonstrated maturity in recognizing our rights, Cigliutti said.
