Government tries to rush marriage ban

Attorney-General Philip Ruddock this morning reintroduced the Marriage Act amendment legislation into parliament in an attempt to rush the same-sex marriage ban into law.

The surprise move, which Labor has branded “a political stunt”, came in response to the news that the cases of two same-sex couples, who applied to the Federal Family Court to have their overseas marriages legally recognised, were advancing quickly.
