Gurlesque returns

Gurlesque returns

For some Sydney women the past two summers have been memorable for long hot nights -“ Sunday nights at the Imperial Hotel. There, thanks to the riot-inspiring girls of Gurlesque, the dyke strip show became as much a part of a Sapphic summer as a topless swim at the Coogee Women’s Pool.

Anyone wondering what has happened to Gurlesque this year will be glad to hear the girls are almost back -“ but in a different place. This year it’s the eastern suburbs punters who’ll be able to stumble home in a Gurlesque-inspired love-fog.

Gurlesque is returning with a performance at DCM nightclub in Oxford St tomorrow night (Friday 20 December).

Founder Sex Intents says DCM will allow for more women, more ogling, and more after-show dancing. After all, the Imperial -“ for all of its backroom charm -“ often had women queuing out of its doors.

The venue will be bigger and so will the shows, Sex says, although Gurlesque is not departing from the raunch fans have come to know and love.

It should be just an amazing night full of racey good times, where everybody hangs out and gets turned on together. And the shows will be bigger than ever, she says.

Without giving too much away, Sex says those might include naughty nurses, perverts and perhaps even a fan dance.

This will be the third summer of Gurlesque. Sex says the night was expected to fade out after the first show, but word got around about the sensational performances and each show became bigger than the last.

As for the future? Sex and partner Glita Supernova are dreaming of a Global Gurlesque -“ a chance to show the world how Australians do striptease.

The first step on the path to global dominance is Melbourne, where the team is returning for another Midsumma festival. Gurlesque will perform three shows at the Star Hotel in Collingwood from 24 January.

And for the first time the Gurlesque girls are performing as part of the Mardi Gras program, with The Fever party -“ billed as a tribute to love, passion and lusty ladies -“ to be held on Valentine’s Day. A romantic date for a romantic event, complete with kissing booths, Sex says.

The final event on Gurlesque’s upcoming calendar will give women a chance to recover from Mardi Gras in an appropriately sleazy way. The Farti Bra recovery party will be held on Sunday 2 March at DCM.

Gurlesque returns on Friday 20 December to DCM nightclub, 33 Oxford St. Doors open at 9pm and shows will run from 10pm till 1am. The club will be open for after-show revelry until 3am. Entry is $15. Visit the Gurlesque website (www.gurlesque.org) for pictures and details on upcoming shows.
