Rainbow Labor condemns A-G

Rainbow Labor slammed the state’s Attorney-General Robert Clark for his record on LGBTI rights at last weekend’s ALP State Conference.

Victorian Rainbow Labor, the official LGBTI branch in the state, moved a motion condemning Clark and the Coalition Government for their “poor record on addressing discrimination and harassment faced by the LGBTI community”.

The motion criticised Clark for the appointment and ongoing defence of Professor Kuruvilla George, Victoria’s deputy chief psychiatrist, following his public opposition to same-sex marriage.

Rainbow Labor member Angela Bell said more needed to be done to advance the rights of LGBTI people in Victoria.

“By supporting this motion today we are saying that the ALP in Victoria values and accepts all people, regardless of who they love,” she said.

The motion was unanimously endorsed by Victorian ALP delegates.

The Attorney-General was contacted but declined to comment.
