Thankfully, Bertie Blackman’s new remix album (available now on digital release) avoids two of the pitfalls common to such collections: first, there are no interminable 12-minute remixes here — most clock in at under five minutes — and second, each song makes only one appearance, so you don’t have to sit through umpteen interpretations of the one track. If you loved Secrets and Lies and want to hear its songs gently pulled in interesting new directions — disco, nu-jazz, breakbeat — this is a surprisingly cohesive collection.
