City of Sydney has dedicated its annual Living Colour floral event to the 35th Sydney Mardi Gras this year with garden displays arranged into hearts, high heels and the pouty lips from pop princess Kylie Minogue. More than 30,000 plants will be planted around the city during the three week lead up to the Mardi Gras parade on March 2.

Adelaide Feast Festival founder Margie Fischer is presenting The Dead Ones, a solo show delving into death, family and memory through storytelling and photography, as part of the Midsumma Festival. Fischer’s previous solo show, The Gay Divorcee, was well-received by audiences. The Dead Ones runs January 29-February 3 at TheatreWorks.

Two nights, three twinks and some truly hilarious dance numbers. That’s what you can expect from the upcoming comedy show, Twunks at the GH Hotel on February 1-2 from 7pm. Gay comedians Nath Valvo, Joel Creasey and Thomas Jaspers are teaming up to chew over life as twenty-something gay guys. Special guests include Fiona O’Loughlin, Kate Langbroek, Adam Richard, Ben Norris, Em Rusciano, Brendan Maclean, Marni McQueen and Monty Diamond.

DJs will be spinning tunes from noon until 8pm on Saturday February 2 at Wet On Wellington. It’s the last big party for the Midsumma so why not wrap up the 2013 festival by going for a dip.

This series of readings and spoken word events at Hares & Hyenas, Fitzroy, features the venue’s regular listings such as Bespoken and Word Slam plus new works. Don’t miss Rapid Fire on February 1 when 12 opinionated people take the stage for six minutes each. The line up runs on Wednesday-Friday nights until February 1.

Escape to the foam on Australia Day

All you’ll need is your best swimwear as the Gold Coast’s Escape night club will be providing the foam and bubbles. DJ Mike Evans will be pumping out the sudsy tunes as he celebrates his 30th year of spinning vinyl across the country. A cloak room will be provided so just bring a towel, shoes and swimmers.

New trivia night for Brisbane

The great people at Slightly Twisted Refreshment Lounge in Nundah are holding a weekly trivia comp with what else, but a twist. Charismatic quizmaster and queer radio star Blair Martin will challenge teams with great prizes on offer. Teams are encouraged to turn up each night to compete for prizes at the end of season. Held on the first and third Thursdays of each month, entry is $3pp for teams up to four people.
