Leather up

Leather up

We all have different approaches and understandings when it comes to the ‘Leather World’ and, in my opinion, as long as our approach is respectful and we are not opposed to enhancing our understanding, then there is nothing wrong with having different views on what it is. The best way to get firsthand information about leather would be by meeting members of the leather community. Meeting some of the practitioners of a wide range of sexual arts who are involved in the community would be beneficial as well. As they say: hear it from the horse’s mouth.

In Victoria, when it comes to information about history, clothing, sex, fetish, events, pop art, culture, sadomasochism/masters and slaves, ways of living, or any other kind of information leather related, Victoria Leather Incorporated (VicLeather) will be a really good starting point.

VicLeather is a community based organisation that is inclusive of the different sub-groups within the leather community in Melbourne, Victoria. The best chance to increase your knowledge about leather is by participating at the educational and social events that VicLeather offer to support the community they represent.

Some of the initiatives are as follows:

On Wednesday, November 7, ‘STIQ & I’ will take place, it is a workshop with a panel of experts discussing the rise of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), resistant strands, blood-borne viruses and the increase in HIV infections in Victoria, the session will have a special emphasis on sexual adventurism and people living with HIV (PLHIV). There will be ample of opportunity to ask questions or text them during the event. More info here.

On Saturday, November 10, VicLeather will be bringing to us the Black Ball, their first official party. It is going to be a celebration of all genders and sexualities, plenty of opportunities to meet, mingle and have a dance with people from the varied sexy leather scene from all over Australia.

In order to offer you a great experience, absolutely everything has been considered. Sexy tunes brought to you by an amazing DJ line-up in a fantastic space with sublime décor and lots of pretty lights. It is going to be hot, it’s going to be black and it is going to be a ball! So get your dancing shoes ready, come along and let your fetish run free!

Black Ball is an over 18’s event and has a strict dress code to be observed: strictly leather, fetish and costume. For more info go to vicleather.org.au/black-ball
