Montana the latest US state to allow same-sex marriage
THE state of Montana in the US has become the latest state to allow same-sex marriage after a federal court judge struck down a ban.
In his verdict handed down yesterday, US District Judge Brian Morris wrote: “No family wants to deprive its precious children of the chance to marry the loves of their lives. Montana no longer can deprive Plaintiffs and other same-sex couples of the chance to marry their loves.”
The news in Montana comes after Kansas legalised same-sex marriage last week, and back home, the NSW Government passing amendments officially recognising same-sex marriages undertaken overseas.
The number of US states now allowing gay marriage now stands at 34, plus the District of Columbia.
Around 200 million Americans — two-thirds of the total population — now live in states with same-sex marriage.
