Andreas returns from New York
It’s been a year since Christine Andreas last visited our shores, but the soprano is back for a quick stint at the City Tattersalls Club this week.
I’ll be singing music from the theatre, some great standards, some light pop and maybe something original as I am married to a composer, she told Sydney Star Observer.
In general, I give an audience the kind of show that I myself would enjoy experiencing and my favourite style of show is an eclectic blend of music that captures a performer’s musical style and personality -” that’s the beauty of the cabaret form.
In such an intimate atmosphere I have the opportunity to weave a spell, take people out of their reality and into my musical world that I hopefully have filled with beauty, wit and humanity. When it’s over you should feel a lot lighter than when you entered the room.
In between her Sydney visits, the diva spent 55 weeks starring as Margaret Johnson in the US tour of The Light in the Piazza. She was also busy working on creating new concerts as well as performing with symphonies, singing at arts centres and cabaret venues throughout the US.
A particular highlight this year for Andreas was performing in concert with Michael Feinstein and a command performance for the royal family of Thailand.
She will be displaying her amazing set of vocals this Thursday 30, Friday 31 October and Saturday 1 November at City Tattersalls.
I craft my show just like a good play. The energy ebbs and flows and the next song should feel inevitable. The audience should lose a sense of time and just relax -” that’s showmanship, Andreas said.
It’s my nature to strive to consider people and what life is like for them. The songs I choose -” or the ones that choose me -” express common feelings and experiences for the most part, though I confess my favourite songs express common feelings and experiences in an uncommon way, in a unique way.
