Beauty and the Bastard: A Spoonful of Disney

Beauty and the Bastard: A Spoonful of Disney

James Edgar Francis and Maxine Kauter take you on a bizarre fairytale journey through the songs of Disney at the Sidetrack Theatre on February 19 and 21. Armed with acoustic guitars and beer, the pair deftly bends your favourite Disney tunes to their will. This is no tribute show; it’s an irreverent, soulful reinvention of childhood anthems.

Reaching into the screen and pulling out camp romance and the absurd, Francis and Kauter find the queer in Disneyland. Some have suggested this sincere, acoustic performance is just a blatant attempt to corner the tween demographic, but less cynical commentators have deemed it an endearing celebration of the youth of the Western World.

Dress up, sing-a-long and hear inspired interpretations of popular tunes, including ‘A Whole New World,’ ‘It’s a Small World’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ Count on a jam-packed hour of humour, joy and the beauty of an unexpected key change, delivered by two artists who know how to break a few hearts with a melody.

Maxine and James are joined by Shannon Haritos on double bass and Nicola Ossher on percussion.
