TV gets a little more gay

Beauty and the Bear is the latest queer-inspired TV series to be broadcast on community television this month.

Over the next eight weeks, the show’s hosts, Nathan Little and Miz Ima Starr, will explore the lives and careers of 23 exceptional GLBT artists who produce outstanding work across a range of art forms.

There are incredible stories, laughter, tears -” like the best-ever episode of Oprah -” except we only jump on the couch if someone sexy is already on it. It’s also a safe outlet for the near-pathological need for co-host Nathan Little and myself to be vivacious in front of a camera 24/7, said Starr.

Both Nathan and I were determined to see more queer content on television, and in the end the only way to do that was to produce it ourselves. We have backgrounds in film production and media, both in front of and behind the camera, and had been searching for a way to harness the on-screen chemistry between us.

The launch party was on Tuesday 17 February with a live performance from Glace Chase.
We decided to throw a luscious free shindig for everyone, to help get us all into the swing of Mardi Gras, Starr said.
