Art contest open

Paint, draw or design something – just make sure you get your female-focused artworks into Midsumma’s Gender Studies competition before submissions close on August 26.

The all-women artworks must reflect experiences as a woman and/or lesbian and can be created in any form.
The competition will exhibit all pieces for public voting on Sunday September 2 at The Owl and Pussycat in Richmond from 2pm.

The guest judges are LOTL journalist Cathy Anderson, JOY 94.9 FM presenter Ginni Hettihewa and Midsumma Visual Arts convener Rat Simpson.

Simpson said Gender Studies was created to give female artists the opportunity to celebrate what it meant to be a woman.

“Artist should get their work in because this is a great opportunity to get their work out there, get noticed and win some rad prizes,” Simpson said.

“The art can be in any form: painting, stencil, street art, etching, drawing, photography, digital, mixed media and even sculpture.”

The winner will walk away with a spectacular promtional package including a Midsumma-sponsored exhibition space and extensive media coverage.

The People’s Choice winner will take home $100 cash.
