Blessing unites community

Community representatives will come together on February 21 to take part in the 2010 blessing of Mardi Gras.
The annual event is a celebration and a reminder for religious folk that God is still with them.
“Because our church and people from our church have been involved in the community for such a long time, it’s a way for our church to celebrate, and to show that God is involved,” one of the event’s organisers, Elizabeth Plant, said.
“In spite of all the things people have been told about their sexuality, and the separation that happens because of sexuality and the churches, God is still there. God does still care.”
This year’s blessing, held on Fair Day evening, will cover the Mardi Gras Festival and the GLBT community in general, with members from ACON, Positive Life, Rainbow Families and local artists and performers all coming together.
“This year we’re inviting a cross-section of representatives from the community, to give a blessing on various community groups and representatives. It’s to show that our community is represented in our congregation, and our congregation is represented in the community.”

info: The Mardi Gras blessing will be
held at Metropolitan Community Church,
96 Crystal St, Petersham,  from 7pm
on February 21.
